REVIEW - WEEK 2
The ENG YNPL was back underway after over 4 months away and now the league can focus on showcasing the best youth netball has to offer with without much distraction.
A great day in the sun saw Chester NC A U12 record a 100% winning record, along with Ellesmere Port NC in the U13 section. Ellesmere Port, Wyre NC, Chester NC B won their first games in the U12 section and Grangetown NC and Wyre NC in the U13 section.
Chester NC A 28 Vs Grangetown NC 12
A solid start from Chester NC A saw them take the game to Grangetown NC early taking a 7-1 lead into the second quarter. Grangetown NC weren't short of opportunities and did create enough scoring chances to get back into the game, but the shooters just weren't as clinical as their opponents. As the game progressed Chester kept capitalising on Grangetown's mistakes and recorded a very comprehensive win. Grangetown will be keen to bounce back because they know they can do better and have enough quality in the side to do so.
M&A NC 10 Vs Chester NC B 47
M&A NC finally got onto the court in this league after a long wait and were under pressure before the game even started when traffic meant some of their side were missing. Chester NC B took full advantage of this and were up 17-4 by half time. M&A NC kept plugging away but Chester were solid and gave nothing away, with their shooters being very clinical under the post. This was Chester NC first game of the season also and they will be happy with not only the win, but the performance level of their players.
Ellesmere Port Youth 20 Vs Grangetown NC 20
A great encounter between two sides who showed massive improvement from their first games. The first quarter was close and it ended 7-5 to Ellesmere. In the second quarter Grangetown U11 produced an unbelievable performance to go in at half time 13-8. This woke Ellesmere Port up and like Grangetown in the second quarter they came out fired up and consistently turned over the ball and their GA rewarded their great work with a ruthless display of accurate shooting. Going into the final quarter Ellesmere were 19-17 ahead continued the good work from the previous quarter to secure their first win in this league.
Saddleworth NC 23 Vs Wyre NC 33
A great start from Saddleworth NC saw them take a 7-5 lead into the second quarter. As the second quarter got underway Wyre NC were showing signs of breaking the Saddleworth resistance and once they did there was no going back for Wyre. Led by their talented Centre and Goal Shooter, Wyre NC recorded a fantastic win to get their first victory in this league.
Ellesmere Port NC 35 Vs Wyre NC 17
What looked like a tricky game for Ellesmere Port actually showed how talented they are and what a force they will be to contend with in this league. They started fast and shocked Wyre NC who started similar in their opening game against Grangetown NC. On this occasion unlike Grangetown, Ellesmere weren't for taking their foot off the gas and went from strength to strength through-out the game. In the end a comfortable victory Ellesmere Port.
Grangetown NC 31 Vs Kingston NC 19
Grangetown NC bounced back from an opening round to defeat to win against Kingston who were playing their first game of this league. Grangetown started well but Kingston NC showed signs they had the talent to get back into the game. The second quarter saw a mini comeback from Kingston NC and the Grangetown coaches must of thought it might be a repeat of the Wyre NC game in the opening round. In the third quarter Grangetown pushed ahead and finally got the breathing space they needed and went on to record a solid victory.
Chester Blaze 46 Vs Chester NC Lightning 13
Chester Blaze eased by passed Lighting to get their first win of this league season. It's sometimes hard to play against your own team but they showed good professionalism to get the win and are able to focus on the upcoming games in the league.
